Improving your home air quality during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The number of people getting infected with the coronavirus has climbed to such high levels, that governments around the world have imposed lock-downs in their respective countries.

Here in Australia, there are currently over 5,000 cases of COVID-19, with the majority of cases in NSW with almost half the confirmed cases in Australia.

To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in the county, Scott Morrison, via the Department of Health, released a statement on 22 March 2020, emphasising the importance of social distancing and good hygiene.

He stated that any outdoor gatherings should be limited to two people, excluding family members and those you live with. The prime minister added that the physical distance between people should be 1.5 metres when possible, and there should be no more than one person per 4sqm.

Stay at home!

Our government is enforcing self-isolation of residents who are returning to Australia, by taking those who have landed in Australian airports directly to a nominated hotel for 14-days of quarantine. In WA this is inclusive of inter-state travel.

People are also strongly advised to stay at home, unless they need to go grocery shopping, or are forced to go on unavoidable trip that may expose them to the virus.

With the government mandate, everyone is expected to stay in their  homes and attempt to boost their health and immunity while the quarantine is in place.

As we are confined to our homes more, maintaining our health & environment is important. Aside from taking vitamins, eating healthy, and maintaining daily exercise, one thing that you can do is improve the air quality in your home.

How good home air quality can help protect your health

Indoor temperature, air flow, and humidity all play a certain role in your home air quality, and what you could expose yourself too. If the air inside your rooms are not filtered out and circulated properly, the possibility of inhaling allergens, dirt, and bacteria increases.

That is why it is important to open up your windows once in a while, to get good ventilation inside your home. Additionally, you can ensure that your air conditioner has a high quality filter to catch dust particles, and allergens to provide clean air. Panasonic Wall Mounted Split Systems are equipped with anti-bacterial filters, and are committed to quality air for life, so you know that impurities won’t go unnoticed.

Previous studies have shown that virus thrive in cooler temperatures. Which explains why cases of common colds, and influenza, are more prominent during winter when the temperature is low.

In a study conducted by the American Society for Microbiology, researchers discovered that the transmission of the flu virus is “… highly efficient at 5°C and locked or inefficient at 30°C.” They also found that the flu virus doesn’t like humid conditions; instead it prefers dry conditions, with relative humidity between 20 to 30 per cent.

By maintaining a comfortable room feeling with air quality filters, and relative humidity could play a part in your overall health in such a time.

Maintaining room humidity whilst remaining comfortable

Generally wall mounted split systems are designed to dry the rooms air, which reduces the humidity in the room. A popular alternative to cool homes whilst maintaining a comfortable humidity level is Evaporative Air Conditioning.

Evaporative cooling technology makes it possible for you to cool your home and whilst maintaining humidity levels. An evaporative AC delivers fresh, cool air around your home without having to shut your windows and doors.
